MISSION VALLEY HUNT CLUB LEGACY FUND
The Mission Valley Hunt Club Legacy Fund has been established as a means of preserving and maintaining the hunting, hounds and kennels which all members have come to love and appreciate. This Fund will be set aside and used, not for day to day running of the Club, but for future large unexpected expenditures that could adversely affect the hunt. The object is to safeguard the Club’s future. The Fund sets up a mechanism for members and friends of Mission Valley Hunt Club to devise a gift, before or after their death, for the benefit of the Hunt and the hounds. To become a member of the Legacy Fund, one contributes an amount of $5,000.00 or more. There are several methods by which to do this.
1. One may make a cash gift at any time, and become a member of the Legacy Fund. This can be made in one payment, or by annual payments of $1,000 each.
2. One may designate a gift by will or trust. In most testamentary documents, there is a list of specific bequests; one may easily add “Mission Valley Hunt Club” to this list, and make a specific monetary bequest. This would need to be prepared by an attorney, and properly signed, notarized and authenticated. But it could be accomplished at the same time as any other updates or changes to one’s will and trust are made. Remember, however, that donations to the Hunt will not qualify for an estate tax deduction, because the Hunt is not a 501(c)(3) organization.
3. One may designate Mission Valley Hunt Club as a co-beneficiary on a life insurance policy or annuity. This may be accomplished by a simple Change of Beneficiary form, which can be obtained from one’s insurance agent. One may designate a specific dollar amount to be allocated to the Hunt, or may designate a percentage of the total insurance proceeds to be allocated to the Hunt.
4. One may name Mission Valley Hunt Club as a beneficiary of one’s IRA, 401K or other retirement account. Again, a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the total may be designated.
The Masters have approved a method for recognizing members of this Legacy Fund. An elegant, understated rosette has been designed, using the hunt’s colors, by Dexter Rosettes – the nation’s premier maker of hand-made lapel rosettes. This rosette will be given in recognition of each member who elects to participate in the Legacy Fund. The rosette may be worn on the lapel of a member’s hunt coat, at the Hunt Ball, or at any business or social occasion, as a symbol of one’s commitment to hounds and hunting – with the appreciation of those who follow you into the Field.
To become a member of the Legacy Fund, please make your living contribution to a Master, or provide to one of the Masters a copy of the relevant page(s) of your will or trust, or the beneficiary designation for your insurance policy, annuity or retirement plan, listing Mission Valley Hunt Club as a beneficiary, with the amount shown. If you have any questions, please feel free to call one of the Masters or Nick Badgerow. Thank you for your consideration and support of the Mission Valley Hunt Club Legacy Fund.
